hi all, new to cnc building,couple of questions if anyone can help. TIA

Im looking for the right kind of cable to extend my nema 23 steppers, 3amp cable, also a cheap version of lead screws? any links would be appriciated

A lot of people on here use 4 core CY cable 1mm or 1.5mm. What type of lead screw are you looking for? ..Clive

You will want to buy FLEX CABLE, SHIELDED, 18AWG, 4CORE /0.8mm/

ALPHA WIRE,2424C SL005 is the cable i use. Yeah, its better than the Chinese one the others sell for almost the same money.

hi guys thanks for the cable info :) and clive im currently using threaded bar just for the build and to check motion etc but i do want to use something more accurate and robust but the price tags are way out of my league from what i have seen, was maybe considering chain drive?, my bed size is 1200x1000mm

I dont like CY cable for stepper motors. I like it for the spindle to VFD. The others are = "ebay search stepper cable" . What i say is that better buy brand cable for steppers.

I like "flex cable" . Flexy, you know. Easy to bend , thin for the size, easy to solder.

Well from the link I posted "CY cables come with a grey sheath, are highly flexible multi core cables with (class 5) copper conductors. They also have a voltage rating of 300/500v, having been manufactured to meet the requirements of BS6500 and VDE0250." it seems they are flexi.

Sorry welcome to the forum and don't worry about the banter we all mean well. What are you wanting to cut with your machine as threaded bar won't cut much with any accuracy.

lol, im finding it amusing :) i guess everyone has there opinions and preferable ways, basically im just gonna be cutting shapes out of 18mm thick pine to build my birdhouses with. taking me far to long on the scroll saw so i thought id have a bash at this, initial frame prototype at the moment is wooden but once ive got tht to how i want it ill get it made in steel, easy to keep changing the wood than metal :)

Do you have in mind a realistic budget? As if you are going to make it in steel eventually it would make sense to buy stuff that can be used again instead of buying twice. ..Clive

im trying to stay under a grand inc software, i dont have much spare cash so i buy as i go along. will upgrade the machine as i progress aswell. my first goal is to get it built, wich is nearly complete, just motors to put on when i buy them, but only aiming to get it to a working (loosly worded) stage and then progress to accuracy and sturdyness afterhttp://www.mycncuk.com/attachment.ph...id=14433&stc=1http://www.mycncuk.com/attachment.ph...id=14434&stc=1 i know its nothing great but its how i felt comfy starting with the idea

Unless you really want to go the cnc route, you would be better with a small table saw and some forstner cutters. e.g. http://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster...rstner-bit-set
