And I think you'll find a setting in windows somewhere to change the default file format for vcarve.

Have you tried just changing the

Re: Closed Loop Stepper Cable Sheild?
I think the reason for shielding stepper wires is to minimise radiated EMY considering they are carrying fast high current pulses. IF the servo includes its driver in the package the signal levels...

Quite a lot to unpack here.
First, with some rewiring everything except the spindle motor should be able to run directly from the mains, without using the step-down transformer.
The spindle... -

What grade brass is it? Did you change to new stock recently? Hard brass, cz121, generally machines very well with normal tools but more ductile types can be horrid.

I attach a Sprint manual which may not be for your precise type but they seem fairly generic. For a quick fix, you could either
(a) connect the speed control input on the drive direct to... -

Re: Novamill - Mach3
Another point about these BoBs (for which documentation is very scarce) is that the logic inputs have an opto isolator with a 1k resistor connected to the +ve supply, the 12V one not 5V, and expect...

Having just installed one of those BoBs to replace the old one on my lathe, I can say with confidence that the 12v and 5v grounds are commoned! Therefore the 0-10v output is not ground isolated. ...

Are you using the original Sprint speed controller? If so do NOT try connecting the BoB 0-10v output to it as the controller is isolated from ground and its 0v floats at something round half mains...

BUILD LOG:
Re: Looking to build another cnc specificially for solid surface carving
The toothed belts on my Novamill have no signs of wear-induced backlash after 20 odd years. Timing belts are much easier to fit than gears too. But I agree that finer pitch ballscrew and direct...

Re: Looking to build another cnc specificially for solid surface carving
Do you mean gears? Using ballscrews the last thing you want is backlash in gears. But reduction using toothed belt would be fine. For precision better to use a bit more mechanical reduction than...

Re: 220V single phase to 380V three phase
Hard to say if it would stall at the lower speed, that's more a function of torque than power. Just change the pulley ratio surely? But you can vary the speed with the VFD of course.
Ideally you... -

Use an old phone charger with USB output, butcher a USB lead to get at the power conductors. Yes you MUST connect the earths. Probe is specced for 5V I think so you should use that.
