NEW MEMBER: Re: Trained monkey looking to level up!

You could change controller to an ethernet one like a UC400eth. (Better than USB) .
Get a couple of IDC26 to DB25 cables. Then use your existing parallel board with it on one of the ports and just...

    Re: help needed

I assume you mean, no pport on pc, and usb connection from pc don't control the board, correct?. In which case:

My guess is that the boards parallel port is the control and the USB is just for 5v...

Re: step and dir pulse problem Mach3

    No.
The vfd 10v is to give power to a manual 3 pin potentiometer. Then the pot dial adjusts that voltage and sends it back into the avi input via the wiper based on where you position the dial....

    Re: uc300eth vfd connectios

Either send a pwm signal from a ucbb output- then put this signal into a pwm to analog converter- then that goes into vfd.

Or do what I've done. An idc16 cable from analog port on uc300 into an...

If you find that your max velocity is below what you would like, swap out the 36v for a 48v.
I'd have gone for the DM556:

Re: step and dir pulse problem Mach3

Depends on what you want to do and the motor spec. Model number not showing anything so double check you have it right.
What are it's dimensions, that may also give us a clue on it.

    Personally, I...

  12. Re: Recommendation for motors and controller with rotating nut

First off. If JAZZ recommends, you're best off following it.

Secondly. If you're happy with the old Dell and Mach3 then go for it. I use the same combo at present on WinXP and it's been fault...

If you prefer seperate equipment: UC400eth + 2 of whatever bboards you desire/prefer. 24out/10in
    Go all out with the UC300eth Max from cncroom: (uc300+ ub1 + ud1 + license). Around 36out/49in.

    Re: Does this sound normal?

Even 60Vdc isn't enough to reliably run 34's in my view.
I know I'm talking of a mill with gibs here and routers are looser running, but still., I could not get my 1080oz reliably above 450rpm...

    Re: Newbie PSU calculations

I would go no less than 48v.
48V 800w will do it easily.

Generic 4 axis kits normally come with 2x 36V 350w supplies so the supply I suggest above is plenty :)
    (36v is usually dissapointing).

If both vfd's do exactly the same. I'd say the motor is a duffer internally.

I'm still pondering about going closed loop later down the line. If this can run in open loop as well (for the time being), then I'll get it right now.

  22. Re: Are taper lock pulleys a good choice for ball screws?

Even with motors of near the same inductance is proven.

    Nema34, 1080oz (7nm and change) 3.5mh inductance:...
  23. Re: Are taper lock pulleys a good choice for ball screws?

I've got a 112mm taper lock and it is weighty.
It's for the 1.8kw servo that's going to be for a mill spindle.
Wouldn't fancy that on a ball screw!!!.
