    The coupling was loose and slipping rubbing against the screw it obviously caused the Z axis to lose steps and therefore its integrity.

    OK so I mixed up the poster of one part of thread it does not change the point that whatever is moving 3.75mm should be easily identifiable, if the ball screw is dropping the retaining nut on base...

    As regards your enclosure I don't use an enclosure as such but have screens in Acrylic for certain jobs to control chip/coolant ejection etc, very easy to cut and weld together using Dichloromethane....
