Frankly, by the time you've screwed one together, it would be as cheap to buy one:
If you're happy with 10A then something like this for £119 + vat would do : It'll do 0-30v with 0-10A I-limit

Pretty much. You need to ensure the DTI is dead on centre then compare opposite faces by rocking the chuck for a minimum reading
It is easier and more accurate if you trap another lathe centre... -

Ah Sorry, I must have missed theat out of the installer script. (the inpout.dll is only required to handle the touch switch input on my panel-pc)

If you look at the multi-scale reader, I use an external PSU (wall-wart) to power the reader and off-set the supply to +3v5 and -1v5, so that the PC and scale grounds can be connected together.

A good builders bubble level will be OK to a couple of mm over its length. A mechanist's level is capable of measuring to fractions of a mm. (e.g. <0.5mm/m) but at a price
