Either tool will need an enclosure if it is run in an apartment. Both for noise and the wood dust being produced when cutting.

If you were to go for a Kress (and I am not advising either way) look at http://www.sorotec.de/shop/Spindle-Motors/Routers/Routers-301/ and note the price compared with MD's asking price.

Neale mentioned the most important point I think, the ER20 collet of a decent spindle, which is a must.

A Kress unit is what allot of people start off with, it will do what you want BUT a water cooled spindle can be got for around the same money and would be a better choice imo, the kress...

If done correctly then it will make it a lot quieter. But there are some things to note -

The problem is how much was you thinking to spend.? 3040 or even 6040 Money makes it nearly impossible for anybody to compete. That doesn't mean you should buy 3040 because they are poor...
