Yes a simple switch will work fine without any other stuff attached. You could still use the proxy switches but you would also need relays.

I think you did.
I don't think those switches will work on 5v. I think they are rated to work between 10 and 55vdc going by the picture. -

Magnetism and welding don't really mix, it distorts the arc. That said these type of magnets are ok if your are simply going to hold the material to tack it up before removing them and fully welding...

I was busy looking at the pictures when irving replied. The box is as he says a mains filter. If this was faulty it would cause the fuse in the supply plug to blow and not the ones on the control...
