Re: Alternate VFDs for Chinese Spindles
Here in the US, Hitachi is the preferred brand for use with Chinese spindles. Lots of people are using them.
I went with the Huanyang for $135. The Hitachi is about $350. -

Re: Alternate VFDs for Chinese Spindles
One of the issues here seems to be the high degree of variability in reliability of these things. I'm using the usual HY VFD and have been for around 5 years. If it blows up tomorrow, I'm not sure...

Re: Mini Mill Conversion - best stepper drive choice
Just note that if motors are 2A then you'll need to configure current using the AM882 Tuning software as the DIP switch lowest setting is 2.8A. The Tuning software allows setting from 0.5A upto 8A in...

Re: Mini Mill Conversion - best stepper drive choice
Some of this depends on motor type 4 or 8 wire. With 4 wire your stuck to how motors are wound at factory, often series. 8 wire can choose which.
My choice for small Mill would be to go with AM882... -

Re: Mini Mill Conversion - best stepper drive choice
Ultimately it depends on how much performance you're hoping for.
Higher voltage will let you run faster, which on a ballscrew equipped mill of X2 size, probably wouldn't give you much performance... -

Re: Current favourite stepper drivers
Graeme clive is correct that AM882 are the way to go but to answer your questions about current and Voltage. Out of the two having higher safety margin on voltage is most important. Roughly 10%...

Re: Current favourite stepper drivers
My impression is that that they are the cheaper, older, version of the EM806. Basically, same functionality and voltage/current ratings; the firmware is not quite as sophisticated but it's going to...
