    CONVERSION: Re: Hacking a Roland CAMM3 PNC-3000

    30862

This is the PSU, the rest would need some considerable finding and sorting out.

The spindle speed starts with a reflective sensor looking up at the bottom of the front pulley and connects...

Re: Other Builds - Pandora's Box

I used to say that 200 full steps per rev was fine for 1.7"motors, possibly okay for 2.3" but much too far for 3.4".

I used to suggest that you should use a much smaller motor for the Z axis and...

I am a bit out of touch, what is good in stepping motors these days? Have they improved?

    Re: About homing and switches...

If you are cutting steel do not use one requiring a magnet.

The detector detects a passing object so it cannot be crushed if it fails.

    Re: Cheap 3D Printer Recommendation

Bigger sounds like a good idea until you try it. Bigger makes for all sorts of problems like lifting and everything being stone cold when you go back to start the next layer :encouragement:
  9. Re: Newbie looking at 6040 (China CNC) for polypropylene 15mm sheet

The best plastic for machining is hard polyurethane. Thermoplastics and nylon tend to string, acrylic melts and then congeals around your tool. If you are thinking to machine plastic, try a chunk of...

MDF would usually be cut with a router bit because it is abrasive, aluminium alloy with a high helix milling cutter, pure aluminium is best cold formed because it really doesn't want to cut at all,...

  12. BUILD LOG: Re: Desktop type router - Fixed gantry - steel frame MK2

I can't explain, I should probably shut up, it just looks unfinished. If the router moved back towards the gantry it would look better. If the lower Z axis bearings were at the bottom of the gantry...
  13. Re: Milling: creating a smooth end finish in a slot

Brass should not be a problem, don't understand why you are having trouble.
Maybe we need a close up of the cut edge, is it square, have you got vibration marks, is it smearing at the top?
    Maybe a...
  14. Re: Milling: creating a smooth end finish in a slot

Obviously I know nothing because I have no machine tools that do tens of thousands of rpm, someone will be along to tell me off in a minute, but I would happily cut that in modern brass. When I was a...

If all you want is to flow a flat surface, why not use Wood's Metal? That goes very runny and sets hard. You could even reflow it if you moved the machine.
