I think most people would cut it without turning it over. You just need a long enough tool and depth increments suitable for your machine.

PS I don't know you well enough to bare with you but I will bear with anyone who is willing to learn!An optimist says the glass is half full, a pessimist says the glass is half empty, an engineer says you're using the wrong sized glass.
