    thats what I meant to say. Just the most common or standard threads would be 6, 8 or 10. Although I do have a set of 7mm x 1mm somewhere that I used for repairing an old machine which was scrapped a while ago. One day they might come in useful again.
    10mm x 1mm or metric fine I come across alot. It seems to be quite common on some machines.

    Ye it's common enough in engineering and some machines like you say but you try going to your local iron mongers or tool shop and buy M10x1mm tap/die or nut/bolt even and it aint easy.!! . . Sign of the times suppose they'll only stock the common sellers.
