Re: VFD intermittently trips breaker on bypass relay

I don't quite understand why the contactor coil would burn out, as that should be totally independent of anything that the VFD is doing.

It does sound like an issue with the VFD though.
    I've...
  2. Re: Cheap milling machine spindle

Suitable BOBs do make life far easier, especially with the micro sub-d connectors used.

The 'Ethernet' control is more likely to be EtherCAT, CAN, or ModBus.

ModBus is generally too slow for...
  3. Re: Cheap milling machine spindle

I think I fitted a similar drive for someone last year.
They're all a much of a muchness. I suspect there's limited actual manufacturers of the drives, and they're mostly relabelled/cloned.

If you want to avoid Mach, then I'd doubt that there is anything available ready to go, and something custom built by somebody else is likely to cost more than $600.

If the drive Neutral (or L1/L2) terminals are connected to the N11 terminal, then it is a neutral connector.

Re: Benefits of Belt Drives for Steppers

The issue with microstepping, is that you're essentially relying on the energised coils to balance the rotor between steps, so any external forces can affect the actual position.

Re: BSMCEO4U board is not recognized by MACH3

I've just realised you mentioned that the cards do work with Druful, so the drivers must be fine.

The issue is possibly a more generic Mach3 issue, as Win11 may reject certain DLLs if it think...

Re: BSMCEO4U board is not recognized by MACH3

Unfortunately, although I do have a Win11 laptop, I don't use it that much, and I've certainly not yet had any reason to look at how the device manager shows unrecognised devices.

    If the driver...

Re: BSMCEO4U board is not recognized by MACH3

My guess is that the driver (DLL) isn't security signed, so won't work with Windows 11.
If you look in Device Manager, does the card show when plugged in, and does it show as having any errors?

No, they're EtherCAT only, and the other two non-EtherCAT sets I've got lying around are destined for machines.

The PWM is connected to pin 1 on the parallel port, so it shouldn't be too hard to figure out.

Looks like they've patched the PWM signal into the original interface board, in which case you just need to work out the PWM settings to control the spindle speed.

It's been a long time since I've used Mach3, so can't really help you there, but it'll depend on exactly how the speed control is being done. You'll probably have to trace the wiring to establish how...
