Dean don't worry about it your only cutting wood the box section will easily handle it. The box can resonate but cutting wood it won't really matter or show.

Ok thats good but bring the screw to the front, will be much stronger having the ball-nut close the Z Axis back plate.

Easy, --total number of step / pitch
In you case for the 16 x 2 axis that 1600 / 2 so set to 800
For the 12 x 1.75 that's 1600 / 1.75 so set to 914.2857 -

Wire the switch so the circuit is made (NC) then when you hit the switch it breaks the circuit. Really it doesn't matter which way because you can change the active hi -lo setting but best wired NC...
