Nah wrong got it wrong.
You now have distance pinion travels for one rev which is 96.16 but you have 5:1 ratio so this drops to 19.232 for one rev of the motor which is the affective pitch. So now... -

Wrong way to think about it.
You need steps per mm.
So if it takes 8000steps to move one pinion rotation of 96.16mm, then you divide the 8000 by 96.12, which gives 83.19467554 steps per mm. -

I suppose you could move axis by hand & measure how far you need to move it to rotate pinion 1 revolution.

Derek if you have the IP-A installed and working in Mach3 you already got the plug-in. I suspect you haven't because you need to go into plug-in to set motors up correctly.

Yes a simple switch will work fine without any other stuff attached. You could still use the proxy switches but you would also need relays.

It's hard to see but they look the Voltage on them is 10-55v DC to power them if they are they won't work on 5V

I don't think those switches will work on 5v. I think they are rated to work between 10 and 55vdc going by the picture. -

If your dial gauge has enough travel, you can also come back to the gauge position and overshoot a few millimetres, then return to zero from the opposite direction, so to speak. This will show up...

I cannot comment on the electornics and motor settings.
The video you posted shows repeatability which is a start. If the lost motion is repeatable it will....repeat. It does not show lost motion.... -

Whatever you do, get a continuous earth from the body of the spindle (If metal) or the mount back to the star point as mentioned, without this, any stray voltage is going to earth via you ballscrews,...

If your talking about servo's then yes and no. Yes there's still signal wires from drives to controller but from drives to servos then you'll buy cables ready made up.
